Our Liar of the Day award is a split decision straight from today’s Senate hearing on Social Media Censorship. Grizzly Jack Dorsey, the CEO of Twitter, and Mark “Lizardman” Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook.
Both men appeared virtually before the Senate to answer charges spawning from their muting of voices they don’t agree with, from legitimate newspapers to everyday conservatives, as well as, oh… say, the President of the United States. They were also questioned as to their seemingly unlimited power to control information which could interfere with the upcoming election.
MARK ZUCKERBERG, CEO OF FACEBOOK
In what will go down as the most ironic of ironies, Mark Zuckerberg, the man who promises to virtually connect you to the world via phone, pc or even Facebook branded devices — had “technical difficulties” connecting to the Senate’s virtual hearing (see video, below).
That deserves a click on the old UNLIKE button!
Mark Zuckerberg is a liar. He has lied for years about the history of how Facebook came to be and lied about giving away user’s data with other companies without consent. He was also caught lying to Congress saying Facebook did not use editorial manipulation to disadvantage conservatives – when of course, they did exactly that.
Now, he’s hiding behind section 230 of the Communications Decency Act saying it protects social media platforms from liability for moderating or removing lewd, violent obscene, hate speech, etc. That’s all well and good. But that’s not why the hearing was called. He is once again before the committee because he is not providing a neutral platform. Facebook is accused of censoring conservative or political and social views or verified news stories that make Democrats look bad.
Not surprisingly, Democrat Senators cried out for MORE censorship.
JACK DORSEY, CEO OF TWITTER
First off… I LIKE the beard. Okay, maybe it’s a bit hipster for me, but it’s a fine beard. Let it go. That said, Jack Dorsey likes to lie under oath.
Today, Senator Ted Cruz (Texas) asked him about Twitter blocking a story from the New York Post alleging Joe Biden’s alleged corruption and questionable China dealings. Jack Dorsey replied it was a decision they regret and Twitter is no longer blocking the story. Nope. We’re done. We don’t do that anymore!
He had to know someone would check it out. They did. He lied. And he might be in a little hot water.
It wasn’t a good day for Dorsey, Zuckerberg, Social Media Platforms or Democracy. It was however a good day for Liar of the Day!
Congratulations to our winners! Jack Dorsey and Mark Zuckerberg!
