The week’s biggest loser is Biden. Putin’s is trying to take over Ukraine, and most American voters blame Biden. The voters are right.
The Hill reported, “62% of voters say Putin wouldn’t have invaded Ukraine if Trump were president.”
64% say Biden is too lenient with Putin.
The story said, “A majority of Americans polled — 59% — also said they believed that the Russian president moved on Ukraine because Putin saw weakness in President Biden, while 41% said that it was not a factor in Putin’s decision to invade Ukraine.”
Naturally, a companion story on the same poll says Biden’s job approval is down to 38%.
Those numbers are from a poll by Harvard CAPS-Harris Poll.
The Hill also reported, “A Washington Post-ABC News poll found that 33% of Americans say they approve of the president’s handling of the Russia-Ukraine situation, while 47% say they disapprove and 20% say they have no opinion.
“Close to half of Americans polled — 48% — also said that they believed America’s leadership in the world had gotten weaker under Biden. Meanwhile, 23% said they believed it had gotten stronger and 26% said they believed it had stayed the same.”
Which brings me to the Marist Poll.
It said, “Majorities of Americans think Biden’s first year in office has been a failure (56%), he is not fulfilling campaign promises (54%), and he is doing more to divide the nation (52%) than to unite it.”
His job approval is 39% in that poll, down from 41% two months ago.
Biden’s poll numbers began tanking when he surrendered Afghanistan to the Taliban — throwing away American and allies lives as well as $83 billion in cash and war materiel to the enemy.
Foreign policy is the only area where a president can shine on his own. Congress has little input. There are plenty of opportunities to show toughness. Because of that power, foreign policy also can become a quagmire that drags a president down, as both Bush presidents learned.
Guess who is learning that now.
Fortunately for Biden, the Ukrainian people may be able to ward off the Russian soldiers without any help from NATO. President Zelensky went to the front lines. He may be wrong about Trump but he is rallying his people. One nice thing about not relying on NATO is that Democrats cannot decide on a whim to surrender your country to the enemy.
South Vietnam and Afghanistan learned that the hard way.
But NATO is taking tough measures. AP reported, “Russia barred from entering Eurovision Song Contest following Ukraine invasion.”
So the upside of the Russo-Ukraine War of 2022 is the world will be spared hearing Russian Rap this year.
Biden is an international joke right now. Foreign leaders do not respect him. After 4 years of degrading and sabotaging Trump’s presidency, Democrats have managed to make America irrelevant in the eyes of the world.
Chairman Xi smiles. American Maoists are helping to make him the emperor of the world.
