Highlights of the News
ITEM 1: CNN reported, “Amtrak cancels all long-distance trains as freight rail strike looms.”And now for the exclusive MeTV explainer of the situation.
If Charley Pratt and Floyd Smoot cannot reach an agreement with the C. & F.W. Railroad, the Hooterville Cannonball will shut down. This will leave guests at the Shady Rest stranded. Sam Drucker’s General Store will run out of groceries.
Attempts to head off the strike have failed because railroad executive Homer Bedloe is a cranky bitter old man who hates something called MAGA and the transportation secretary is on paternity leave, again.
ITEM 2: The Hollywood Reporter reported, “Skydance Scraps Matthew McConaughey Soccer Movie Dallas Sting Weeks Ahead of Production.”
Those plucky girls soccer players beat Australia, Japan and China and finally Italy in the championship game in 1983.
THR said, “Sources say Skydance and the producers received disturbing allegations surrounding aspects of the true story on which the drama was based. That investigation led Skydance and the producers to pull the plug, according to sources.”
Wait. The story just got more interesting. Now I want to see it just to learn what those disturbing allegations are.
ITEM 3: The Northwest Arkansas Democrat Gazette reported, “Hunter Biden is asking a judge to recalculate his child support payments to an Arkansas woman, citing ‘a substantial material change’ in his ‘financial circumstances, including but not limited to his income.’
“As a result, the existing child support calculation ‘is not in compliance with Revised Administrative Order 10,’ he alleged, referring to the state’s guidelines for child support.”
If he is too poor to provide for his kid, we should provide him shelter and three square meals a day.
In jail.
ITEM 4: Fox reported, “Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis followed through on his promise to drop off illegal immigrants in progressive states, sending two planes full of migrants to Martha’s Vineyard on Wednesday.”
Timing is everything in politics and other forms of comedy. He should have sent them a month ago in peak season. After Labor Day, no one cares.
ITEM 5: The Foreign Desk reported, “Taliban and Pakistani security forces exchanged fire along the border after Pakistani soldiers tried to erect a military structure on the Afghan-Pakistani border, causing multiple casualties on both sides, the Taliban said on Wednesday.
“The Pakistani military said its forces had responded to cross-border fire from militants, and that three of its soldiers were killed.”
Let them terrorize each other and leave the rest of us alone.
ITEM 6: Via Breitbart, the San Francisco Chronicle polled city residents on city life.
The San Fran Chron reported, “45% of people surveyed for the poll said they had an item stolen within the last five years. Proportionally, black and mixed-race respondents felt a more severe impact than other groups, with a majority — 54% of black respondents and 55% of mixed-race respondents — reporting they had suffered theft. Property crime rates were lower for white residents, 43% of whom had a possession swiped within the time period.”
Things are so bad that Tony Bennett is singing I Left My Heart (and Wallet and Car) in San Francisco.
ITEM 7: The Foreign Desk reported, “Two Years After Abraham Accords Signing, Israel’s Trade, Cooperation with Gulf Countries Has Skyrocketed.”
War is bad for business. The only winners are the arms dealers.
ITEM 8: The New York Post reported, “‘Woke’ Department of Defense equity chief Kelisa Wing has history of anti-white Twitter posts: report.”
My favorite example was her tweet, “This lady actually had the CAUdacity to say that black people can be racist too … I had to stop the session and give Karen the BUSINESS … We are not the majority, we don’t have power.”
Ah, but she does have the power. She knows it. She uses it.
ITEM 9: AP reported, “A federal jury in Chicago convicted R. Kelly on Wednesday of producing child pornography and enticing girls for sex after a monthlong trial in his hometown, delivering another legal blow to the Grammy Award singer who was once one of the world’s biggest R&B stars.”
INTERVIEW OF THE DAY:
ITEM 10: The New York Post reported, “Disney World guests gripe that the Orlando, Fla., resort has become plagued with broken-down rides and dirty facilities — even as the theme park continues to hike prices under CEO Bob Chapek.
“Visitors are increasingly taking to social media to bash the Happiest Place on Earth, complaining that Chapek — who replaced the Mouse House’s longtime boss Bob Iger in 2020 — is only concerned with cutting costs and raising prices instead of reinvesting in the resort.”
Instead of grooming kids, Chapek should groom his amusement park.
ITEM 11: The Epoch Times reported, “FBI Put Key Dossier Source on Payroll in Apparent Effort to Conceal Dossier Fabrications.”
Putting him on the payroll was a nifty way to pay off a blackmailer.
ITEM 12: The Daily Caller reported, “Emails obtained by investigative journalist Christopher Rufo show Boston police saying they never received a call about a bomb threat at Boston Children’s Hospital.”
And yet the media said there were.
Mainstream? Call it what it is: Misinformation Media.
ITEM 13: Michigan News Source reported, “After a review of many parental complaints, the Dearborn Public Schools system has removed seven books from its libraries.”
The story said, “At least four of the books follow LGBTQ main characters. Other books on the list depict rape, abuse and what some parents deemed pornographic content.”
Parents 7, Groomers 0.
ITEM 14: The Daily Wire reported, “Underdog Trump-Republican Karoline Leavitt won the GOP primary for New Hampshire’s First Congressional District on Tuesday.
“Leavitt, who worked in former President Donald Trump’s press shop and then for Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY), could become the youngest woman ever elected to Congress if she pulls out a win in November. She turned 25 last month.”
My advice, keep knocking on doors and stay off Fox because I have noticed the more time a congressional candidate spends on Fox, the lower his odds of winning go.
99% of the Fox viewers do not live in her district. The appearances are a waste of time.
ITEM 15: Why liberals hate Chick-fil-A:
It hires heroes, not villains.
FINALLY, forget the Bentley.
I have thrown in the towel.
My wife is right when she says where there’s smoke, there’s a British car.
But next year, I will buy a new car.
Fox reported, “Seventh-generation 2024 Ford Mustang debuts, and it’s not even close to an electric car. ‘Opinionated’ new Mustang has a V-8 and a stick shift.”
It will be red and a ragtop, the way the Good Lord intended Man to drive.
