Highlights of the News

ITEM 1: Hey, remember when Maggie Haberman of NYT heard the band play Edelweiss at Trump’s White House and freaked out thinking it was a Nazi song? It was written by two Jewish men a dozen years after the war and for their antiwar, anti-Nazi musical The Sound of Music.

And now for the rest of the story.
In the movie version of the musical, Julie Andrews portrayed Maria Von Trapp, who became the matriarch of a family of singers.

Life News reported, “The von Trapps were new to America when Maria was pregnant with her son, Johannes, the youngest of their 10 children. The family also was struggling financially because they recently had lost their fortune in a bank crash in Europe, according to the report.

“Then, more bad news came. When Maria visited a doctor complaining of severe back pains, he told her that she needed to abort her baby.”

They were Catholic.

The story said, “However, the von Trapps refused to consider aborting their unborn son. Instead, they began to pray, asking God to heal both Maria and Johannes. When Maria went into labor, the family gathered together to pray the rosary and sing hymns together, she wrote in her book.”

Lord willing and the creek don’t rise, he will celebrate his 83rd birthday next month.

ITEM 2: Unherd reported, “How Defund the Police backfired. After a spike in crime, progressive cities are reversing cuts.”

The story said, “Consider San Francisco. Its jail population plummeted to 766 in 2021 from 2,850 in 2019. If progressives had done what they’d promised, there would be 2,000 extra people on probation being supported to stay sober and out of trouble. That hasn’t happened. And that’s troubling because many who are released re-offend. Half of all offenders — and three-quarters of the most violent ones — who were released from San Francisco jails before trial, between 2016 and 2019, went on to commit new crimes. Instead of benevolent paternalism, progressives delivered libertarian anarchism. And yet all that would have been required would have been weekly drug testing, check-ins with probation officers, and electronic monitoring.”

This is the plan. Democrats want to amp up violent crime so that this enables them to have a larger police force with more power to control the law-abiding.

Think not? As crime escalates in NYC, the police sent a squad to remove children from a Burger King for not having a vaccine passport.

ITEM 3: Ronald Klain is Biden’s chief of staff.

He should go Greyhound, and leave the tweeting to us.

ITEM 4: Politico reported, “‘The View’ struggles to find a Republican.”

Meghan McCain left. They won’t hire a Trump supporter. Let them rot.

The story said, “Sources said that the show was eager to recruit young libertarian Kat Timpf, but she turned them down because of the show’s reputation for treating conservatives poorly and her contract with Fox. Timpf declined to comment to Playbook. Others have said that the show has a responsibility to fill the conservative chair with a strong Republican co-host ahead of the midterms if they are going to be a credible political talk show.”

Liz Cheney will be available after January 3, 2023.

ITEM 5: Tom Cotton tweeted, “After campaigning on accelerating FDA approval of testing and treatments, it took Joe Biden *11 months* to even nominate an FDA Commissioner.

“The Administration then botched the paperwork, delaying confirmation until 2022.”

This is the OUA — Obama Understudies Administration.

Not ready for prime time.

ITEM 6: On the Pat McAfee Show, Aaron Rodgers said, “If science can’t be questioned it’s not science anymore. It’s propaganda and that’s the truth.”

The CDC backed down from its 10-day quarantine rule and it looks like vax mandates are about to go the way of the pet rock.

Republicans had better call for a full investigation of the handling of covid. I want Fauci and the rest of the federal medical bureaucracy held accountable. And then I want most of it dismantled and the rest of it reduced.

ITEM 7: Just the News reported, “The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention significantly overestimated the prevalence of the COVID-19 variant omicron according to revised data released Tuesday.

“Omicron accounted for less than 59% of new COVID infections the week of Dec. 25, per new CDC data.

“Data published this week shows that omicron was three times less prevalent last week than reported. The CDC stated previously that that about 73% of new COVID infections were caused by omicron for the week of Dec. 18. That number was revised Tuesday to 22.5% of cases.”

They don’t know what they are doing.

Omicron actually is good for us because it could immunize us against the harsher versions of covid.

ITEM 8: WND reported, “Kaboom! Judge lets inspection of 2020 Dominion voting machines take place

“State officials actually sued to PREVENT review of system.”

We will never get to the bottom of the 2020 election but what we learn from this may help in the mid-terms next year and the 2024 presidential election.

ITEM 9: Reuters reported, “China, under fire for approving new coal power stations as other countries try to curb greenhouse gases, has completed the first 1,000-megawatt unit of the Shanghaimiao plant, the biggest of its kind under construction in the country.

“Its operator, the Guodian Power Shanghaimiao Corporation, a subsidiary of the central government-run China Energy Investment Corporation, said on Tuesday that the plant’s technology was the world’s most efficient, with the lowest rates of coal and water consumption.

“Located in Ordos in the coal-rich northwestern region of Inner Mongolia, the plant will eventually have four generating units, and is designed to deliver power to the eastern coastal Shandong province via a long-distance ultra-high voltage grid.

“China is responsible for more than half of global coal-fired power generation and is expected to see a 9% year-on-year increase in 2021, an International Energy Agency report published this month said.”

We need a president who says to hell with this windmill stuff, fire up those coal plants!

ITEM 10: Adam Andrzejewski of Open the Books reported, “On Christmas Eve, Dr. Anthony Fauci turned 81. However, he is not retiring just yet.If he did, Fauci would reap the largest federal retirement package in U.S. history. Our auditors at OpenTheBooks.com estimate Dr. Fauci’s annual retirement would exceed $350,000.”

His handling of covid was criminal. Republicans should get him for lying to Congress. A conviction would deny him his ill-gotten gains.

ITEM 11: The Tennessee Star reported, “Republicans Move to Ban Federal Funds to States, Cities That Allow Non-Citizens to Vote.”

Marco Rubio makes his move for 2024.

ITEM 12: Fox reported, “The Chicago dispatcher who was widely praised for his calm demeanor while assisting officers who came under fire over the summer issued a stark warning on social media last week, saying at least one district is dangerously understaffed. Keith Thornton Jr., the dispatcher, took to Facebook to inform followers that there is a staffing problem in the 16th District, despite assurances from city leaders, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.”

Democrats want high crime, hence their campaign to rid cities of good cops.

ITEM 13: Breitbart reported, “China’s government-run propaganda newspaper Global Times defended President Joe Biden on Monday from Americans using the phrase ‘let’s go, Brandon’ to signal dissatisfaction with his job performance, claiming it is representative of ‘extreme political sentiment’ and branding it abuse.”

Now we know where NBC got the idea to bash Let’s Go Brandon — a phrase its own reporter created.

ITEM 14: I mentioned a few days ago that 538 asked on Twitter for women’s stories on abortion.

Andrea Widburg reported, “FiveThirtyEight probably expected very different abortion stories.”

Robin tweeted, “I found myself unexpectedly pregnant at the age of 22 in my last semester of college with my daughter. Her father and I decided to marry, and she is still the most unexpected blessing in our lives. I cannot imagine a world without her joyful presence.”

Abby Johnson tweeted, “Yes, I’ve had two. Biggest mistakes of my life. There’s nothing more unnatural than a mother taking the life of her child. Women need support and encouragement, not abortion.”

Nick Searcy tweeted, “My son was born extremely prematurely to a single mother who lived in the projects. Rather than abort him, she gave him life and allowed us to adopt him. He’s the handsomest and sweetest young man you could ever meet. I thank God for him every day.”

People used their real names. Real stories. There’s a reason not many women brag about an abortion. I trust the people at 538 now know why.

ITEM 15: Motorious reported, “UK Inches Closer To Eliminating Private Car Ownership.”

This is the goal of electric cars and other nutty ideas. Mobility is freedom.

FINALLY, a reader wrote, “Do you realize that Let’s Go Brandon chanters are the new LGB community?

“Feel free to use this in your blog.”

As well as the FJB community
